2018 was a big year. A good year. Before moving on to 2019, I wanted to reflect on a few highlights.
We did a LOT of travel come to think of it. 2018 saw us in Chiang Mai, Thailand and Hanoi, Vietnam. We went to Hong Kong and Bali. In Malaysia, we made it to Penang, Kuching, Fraser’s Hill, the Cameron Highlands, Ipoh, Sekinchan, and a repeat trip to Malacca and LegoLand. Oh, and we went to Australia. And probably some other places that I’m forgetting. Like that month in the United States this summer. NBD. I laugh because I feel like we’ve slowed down, but I guess that has just been the last month or two. Can’t stop, won’t stop.
On the personal growth front, I got a lot out of cognitive behavioral therapy. I’m not perfect, but I’ve definitely gotten more comfortable driving. I went from thinking I was going to write a book to starting to teach exercise classes and working on my personal training certification.
For our family, the boys have really settled in at their school and are doing great. (I want to say blossoming or flourishing, but that sounds cheesy. But true.) They don’t love it every day, but they have excellent teachers and friends and I’m always impressed by what they are up to and learning. Henry has gone from zero reading to knowing sight words and sounding out lots of stuff. He may finally have his first loose tooth. Mac still asks the most fascinating questions. He seems to be embracing his introvertedness while also enjoying socializing with other people more.
They are still little boys and can definitely still drive me up the wall, but they amaze me with their independence and grown up skillz. Now they wake up and usually play on their own in the mornings. They dress themselves. They do helpful things like unloading and loading the dishwasher, vacuuming, and loading laundry. They walk way more than they used to. The last year has made a huge difference.
Which will make it interesting to see how things go with them when our new baby arrives any day now. 2018 saw us go from not thinking about having another kid, to not knowing if it would work out, to having a baby who is almost here. More on this new little guy in 2019!
But 2019 is another story. One that I will hopefully share more on soon. Hope you had a wonderful 2018 and wish you all the best in the coming year.
