My “Tips” on Traveling with Kids

Someone recently asked me for my thoughts on traveling with kids.  Any tips, tricks, ideas, etc.

My first thought was to demur.  I don’t really have any special insight.  You just sort of do it, right?

But then I realized I do have thoughts.  Or at least things that have worked for us.  So here are my travel things that have worked for us.  Some are Italy specific.  Some work for anywhere.

3 things that have made our recent trips AWESOME

Earlier this summer, we did a lot of trips.  We went to Puglia.  We did overnights at Lake Bracciano, a castle outside of Montepulciano, and over in Umbria for our trip to Cortona and Assisi.  We did day trips to Turin and Ostia Antica and plenty of other places that I’m forgetting.  We recovered in July and hit the States in August.  Now I’m gearing up for another travel bonanza.

Anywho, I’ve been realizing that these trips had some stand-out-travel-all-stars that made them pretty awesome.

Very Normal Henry (with a side of Assisi)

Dear Henry,

Instead of rambling about your vocabulary (immense) and your size (also immense), let me tell you a story about a recent trip that sums up the essence di Henry, if you will.

On a sunny, long weekend in June, we did an overnight trip to Spoleto, Cortona, the Perugina chocolate factory, and Assisi.  There were plenty of quintessential Henry moments throughout, but I’d like to talk about our time in Assisi.
