What I’m into (February 2016 Edition)

What I'm Into

Inspired by Modern Mrs. Darcy, I’m sharing some stuff that I’m digging right now.  Could be a regular feature.  Who knows?  🙂

Chomper Chums

The kids are running around.  You jam a toothbrush into their mouths and try to do your best.  There is yelling.  Screaming.  You are wondering if all of their teeth will fall out in six months due to poor hygiene.

Sound familiar?

My SIL turned me onto Chomper Chums, and it has revolutionized toothbrushing.  (At least for Henry.)  This free app gives you a choice of your own lion, crocodile, or horse.  You set the timer for one or two minutes, and it shows different parts of the mouth to brush.  Brushing earns coins, and you can give your chum a snack afterward.

Henry is INTO it.  Some of his brushing is comical, but he is slowly getting down the moving through different sections of his mouth.  Most exciting for me?  He is actually EXCITED about brushing!  No more battles.  No more chasing.  Game changer.

(OK, to be honest, fewer battles.  But still better.)

Mac doesn’t always follow the videos, but the excitement has been bleeding down to him.  Anything to make the bedtime routine easier is a win in my book.

Exercise Videos

Back in January when we visited my sister and were snowed in with snowzilla, I asked if she had any exercise videos.  Oh, did she.  She introduced me to Autumn Calabrese’s 21 Day Fix, and we started doing one or two a day.  (Kids aren’t the only ones with energy to burn after being cooped up!)

I’d never really been an exercise video hater; I’d just never gotten into it.  Now I’ve got my own Fix, and I’ve been trying to do a workout on the days when I don’t run.

Why do I love the exercise videos?

They are FAST.  All of these are about 30 minutes.  Because I don’t even have to walk down the stairs, the transition time is minimal.  Walk down hall to living room.  Exercise.  Walk back to shower.  Done.  I don’t want to quit on running, but between the stretching, running, and cool down, I’m looking at close to an hour commitment.  It is nice to have a fast option too.

They keep me moving.  This month is kind of gross: dark, rainy, and cold.  My natural instinct is to curl into a ball and wait for the sun to come out again.  The videos help me work out even when I would have a bazillion excuses not to.

They mix it up.  I like that I’m working different parts of my body.  Running is great, but it is generally the same.  Now I’m getting more complete workouts too.  This may not be my whole Spartan race training strategy, but it will be a big part.

Hey gurl, I bet the Pope is thinking about canonizing those undies because they sure are “holey.”

OK.  Yes.  That was awful.  Please excuse me while I go find a ruler to rap my knuckles.

I’m back.  But in more seriousness, this is the situation I found myself in recently.  My daytime underwear was all good, but my sleep and workout set?  Abysmal.  Literally falling apart.

The Mom Edit featured these in the context of good post-partum undies, but I’ve been digging them.  They are more full coverage, but that is exactly what I want when I’m working out on my fitness.

Lots of colors to choose from.  I like that some of them are sporty and a little menswear-inspired.  And if you get the nylon ones instead of cotton, well, NOW you’ve got yourself some fancy pants!  Also, I’m not fully up on my comparison prices on unmentionables these days, but 7 for $27.50 seems pretty good to me.

Tapping My Fingernails

I’m not sure how this happened, but I seem to have grown fingernails.

You:  and . . . ?

I get it.  Not that exciting.  But it is to me.  See, I’ve been biting my nails for almost 30 years.  On the court during basketball games.  During tests.  Basically all the time.  For as long as I can remember.

But now I’ve stopped.

I wish I could give some info on why, but I don’t really know.  I do think my current diet has helped. My nails have always been pretty weak and brittle.  Now they seem a little stronger.

Also, when I feel an urge to bite, I just kind of pet my nails.  Weird?  Probably.  But it is working.

I did try my first set of Jamberry.  It won’t be the last.

And I’ve definitely become that super annoying person who is always tapping her nails.  I can’t help it!  I’m just so excited that I want to tell the whole world that I HAVE FINGERNAILS!!  #couchjump

Happy Leap Day!

That’s about it for me.  What have you been into this month?
