Hi all! Sorry for the radio silence around here. We went to Cambodia last week to see Angkor Wat, and I’m still processing from that trip. So much beauty. So much poverty. It was a pretty incredible experience, and I hope to share more on that soon.
For now, I just wanted to catch up and share some stuff I’ve been digging lately. But really – how are you? Things good? I can tell you that I am NOT digging the switch from daylight savings in the States. We didn’t fall back which means I’m now 13 hours ahead instead of 12. But I don’t have crushing darkness at 5:00 pm now so I should probably shut up about the whole thing . . .
Have you guys heard of the show Rick and Morty? This is a Dan Harmon creation (of Community fame), and we are INTO it.
Although James and I both love it, it’s hard for us to describe why we like it. It follows a mad scientist grandfather and his grandson on their hijinks through the universe, but it’s really so much more than that. It’s funny. It’s dark. It’s smart. It’s kept us up later than we should have been on many nights recently.
One word of caution: I HATED the pilot. Like hated it with a vengeance. After seeing it, I was all this is dumb. But we hung in, and I was quickly hooked. So I only ask that if you try it, that you please see more than the pilot. It needs a fair shot. The shows are only 22 minutes. You can make it beyond the pilot.
There are three seasons. We’ve been watching it on Netflix, but it looks like two seasons are on hulu and you can see some episodes episodes directly on Adult Swim.
Speaking of TV, do you guys know We Bare Bears? We caught a few episodes in Cambodia. I’m honestly still trying to figure out if this is a kids’ show. I mean, it’s on Cartoon Network and it doesn’t seem inappropriate for kids, but it certainly keeps the adults entertained. For some reason, seeing bears take on the social media landscape of today cracks me up. I’d much rather watch this than, say, PJ Masks.
So as a part of my eye surgery, they suggested that I take fish oil and vitamin C. Both leading up to the surgery and for a few months after. Fish oil I was already doing, but Vitamin C was a new one for me.
In general, I’m a bit meh on vitamin supplementation. Better to get your vitamins from food, vitamins are absorbed better when eaten in the context of food, blah blah blah. But I decided it wouldn’t hurt to listen to doctor’s orders on this one.
I’m probably jinxing myself by saying this, but this stuff has really made a difference on not getting sick. Like noticeable. I didn’t see it at first, but after realizing those moments when everyone had colds but me, I started to believe.
In the States, I was using a straight up powder like the one above, but here I’m using a dissolvable tablet. It definitely has some sugar with it, but I’m willing to make that trade.
I feel like I’ve been in a bit of reading rut lately. Doing a lot of rereading. Nothing that I’m really excited about.
BUT I just realized that the latest Inspector Gamache novel dropped recently. (You KNOW I love some Inspector Gamache.) I look forward to digging into this soon.
I’m sure there’s more, but that’s all I can think of for the moment. What are you guys digging lately? Have you tried Rick and Morty? Read any good books lately?
