So I forgot to get a picture of my first day travel outfit (or didn’t realize I’d be doing this yet), but that’s ok because I straight up repeated the outfit on our departure travel day.

My Travel Capsule Wardrobe
So remember how I explained about how I’m not a fashion blogger? I’m not. Not in the cards. For so many reasons.
But I do like a good remix. And I realized I have lots of capsule wardrobes that are created just because . . . you know, travel. By necessity, you can only have a limited number of things when you are on the road.
So, with my star photographer’s (Henry’s) help, I made sure to capture all of my outfits on our recent Barcelona trip.
It isn’t an official Unfancy 10×10 because I had a few extra pieces. Also, I don’t have 10 days of outfits. No matter. I’m not a fashion blogger anyway, right? 🙂
My “Tips” on Traveling with Kids
Someone recently asked me for my thoughts on traveling with kids. Any tips, tricks, ideas, etc.
My first thought was to demur. I don’t really have any special insight. You just sort of do it, right?
But then I realized I do have thoughts. Or at least things that have worked for us. So here are my travel things that have worked for us. Some are Italy specific. Some work for anywhere.
Should you bring a stroller to Venice?
This year we hit up Venice for Carnival. It was amazing. I hope to share more, at least pics, soon.
But in case I don’t get around to it because the Year of Togetherness has decimated blogging around here, I at least wanted to address something that I wondered a lot about before our trip. I’m talking bout strollers.
Should we do no strollers? Two umbrellas? The double? The hiking backpack? I spent more hours than I care to admit pondering what to do about this. The good news is that now I’ve pondered so you don’t have to.
January Goal Check In
You know what’s SUPER weird? Groundhog Day. Try explaining that to a two and four year old. Seriously. You sound like a crazy person.
First, what is a groundhog? Uh, it’s like a beaver without the tail. They live in the ground. I don’t know why we call them hogs.
Yeah, yeah, we grab this groundhog out of the ground and he predicts the weather. That’s legit. But Batman is fake. Go figure.
Happy Belated Groundhog Day everyone.
A little bit late, but I’m trying to do a check in on my 2017 goals. Accountability!
ICYMI: Catch Up Monday
Hi Guys. It’s been awhile. I’ve got some post ideas percolating (like FINALLY doing a Malta post after we’ve gone three times now), but I’m trying to type fast while the boys are entertained in the other room.
It’s been ages since I did this so I figured we could catch up on anything you might have missed.
Goals for 2017
So now that I’ve looked back, time to look forward, right? I keep saying I only have a few goals. Some core focuses, if you will. But, of course, I keep adding. #cantstopwontstop #worstuseofthathashtagever
You should TOTALLY go see the live Nativity Scene at Civita di Bagnoregio next weekend
So this is a post of limited relevance to many, but IF you are in Italy next weekend, you should totes check out the presepe vivente (live Nativity Scene) in Civita di Bagnoregio.
If the weather is good that is. We had pretty mild conditions and loved it. A friend who went last year said it was bitterly cold and windy. I can definitely see how that would put a damper on the fun.
Looking back at 2016
2016 was a big year. A pretty good year, I’d say overall.
We had some aggressive travel goals, and I’m pleased with how it turned out. We did big trips to Sicily, Marrakesh, Lake Garda, and the Balkans. We tagged along with James to Malta, and we did a bonus trip to Vienna. We did plenty of weekends and day trips as well to places like Abruzzo, Viterbo, and Naples.
What to do on your Balkan Holiday: An Itinerary for Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia, and Slovenia
So I think I’ve mentioned that in October we undertook our most ambitious trip to date, a two week road trip in the Balkans. We had a ton of fun.
Because I’ve gotten some questions about it, here is the nitty gritty on what we actually did. I’ll talk more later on the awesome places we stayed.
I’ll also talk more later on our opinions. The things we most enjoyed. The things we might skip.
I will say that this is a very relaxed itinerary. You could shave several days off of this schedule and still do everything plus some. We liked having the extra time; it made it feel like more of a vacation instead of just a trip.
Let’s get to it.
